Understanding Matter statuses

In this guide, you will learn what the three default statuses of a matter are in Maatdesk, in which situations they can be applied, and how to switch to any of them.

Matter statuses

A matter can go through three main states (3), the characteristics of each one are explained below:

This is the first status of any matter. It is set automatically when a matter is created and can only be changed by editing it.

Matters in the Open state are those that are actively being worked on.

This is an intermediate state. This status applies when the process of the matter must be stopped until further notice or due to any situation.

The reason a matter is withheld will depend on what the firm or attorney determines, if so, a note can be added explaining why.

This is the final status of a matter and means that the legal process has ended.

A matter can be edited in this state, but only to change to another, other actions will also be limited.

How to know the status of any Matter

All matters, almost everywhere they are displayed, will contain a badge showing their current status.

Matters are primarily found in the Matters window and Matters tab of any Contact dashboard; in the same window or tab, you can locate all matters in a certain status by using filters.

The status badge is also available on each Matter dashboard and its Details widget.

How to change the status of any Matter

The current status of a matter can only be changed by editing it, the status will be updated after saving the changes.

It is recommended that when you change any of the default statuses, you also fill in or modify the Open, Closed, or Pending dates of the matter according to the one selected.
